HIKING TO LUKOMIR VILLAGE

Lukomir village is located on the Bjelašnica Mountain, known as the most isolated village in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bjelašnica is rich with gorgeous number of mountain villages, but Lukomir is surely the most special one. The enchanting village has an altitude of 1495m and lays between picturesque hills, providing great panorama sights and unique small stone houses. Most importantly, it offers a great hiking trail from Umoljani village.

REACHING THE UMOLJANI VILLAGE

Getting to Umoljani village requests taking a car from Sarajevo and driving 45 minutes to Babin Do area of Bjelašnica mountain. We recommend to make there a short stop and take nice pictures of the mountain’s peak and ski paths that, besides today, were used during the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympic Games. From Babin do, you have to follow 2 road signs. Firstly, use the sign for Šabići village and from there follow a road sign for Umoljani village. The majority of the road was recently renovated and can be done with any kind of car in around 30 minutes ride from Babin Do area.

HIKING OPPORTUNITIES TO LUKOMIR VILLAGE

After getting to Umoljani village, you will find many places to park your car. We recommend to follow the road to its end and park the car behind any villager’s house. From there, the red mountain signs of the trails have to be followed by foot in order to reach Lukomir village. In total, there are 2 possible trail direction signs to follow, either the Obalj or Studeni Potok signs.

Our recommendation is to follow first the right-sided direction, the Obalj trail signs, in order to reach Lukomir village in 2.5 hours of hike. After visiting Lukomir village, follow the Studeni Potok red trail signs, with whom, in 2 hours, you will be back to your parking spot in Umoljani village. The signs are very easy to follow and the scenery while hiking is stunning.

EXPLORING THE LUKOMIR VILLAGE

Arriving from Obalj trail and reaching the Lukomir village, you will be introduced with rural life of Bosnian villagers and their culture. The villagers are very open for visitors and offer many mountain restaurants and products.

Make sure to try the delicious homemade mountain pies, with combination of fresh mountain juices or take a coffee break from your hike journey. You have also an opportunity to buy mountain teas and honey or wool-made socks, gloves and hats, all made from the Lukomir villagers.

Then, continue to walk through the village and refill your bottles with fresh mountain water from the Lukomir fountain pipes. In 5 minutes from the fountain you can climb the panorama spot of canyon Rakitnica, combined with views of the canyon, Bjelašnica mountain hills and Herzegovinian mountains. After enjoying the view, you can start an easy hike back to Umoljani village through Studeni Potok hiking trail.
